« TechiePK » Big Camera in a Small Package | LUMIX DMC-G3 –

I consider myself a pretty serious amateur photographer, I love the hobby and have taken some very professional looking shots if I do say so myself. What I don’t enjoy is lugging around my huge camera and hefty lens, just for a trip to the beach, but I don’t want to miss out on any potentially amazing photo opportunities…
Well, Panasonic just announced a brand new addition to the LUMIX G Series of Compact Cameras, the LUMIX DMC-G3, this is the smallest and lightest digital interchangeable lens camera with a viewfinder that they’ve ever made. This new camera offers a much lighter and smaller camera than your more traditional DSLR allowing for much greater portability and more creative control.
The G3 also features a new 16.0-megapixel sensor that produces rich, true-to-life, high quality images, plus 1920 x 1080 full-High Definition (HD) video recording capability with stereo sound in AVCHD. The Panasonic LUMIX G3 is the ideal hybrid, offering superb still and video capabilities with many easy-to-use features so users at any level can create professional-quality images.
The LUMIX G3 offers photographers the opportunity to express their creativity with cool pre-sets like Creative Control mode, which allows for images to be taken with popular visual effects like Retro, High Key, Sepia and High Dynamic.  The conventional film mode has also evolved with a new effect control, Photo Style, which has Standard, Vivid, Natural, Monochrome, Scenery, Portrait settings that allow finer adjustment of contrast, sharpness, saturation and noise reduction.
The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-G3 is made of aluminum and will be available in a variety of attractive colors, including black, red, white and brown, starting in June 2011. Suggested retail price of the LUMIX G3 WITH the 14-42mm Zoom Lens Kit will be around $699.99.

« TechiePK » Dropcam – Watch your World from Anywhere!!!

Every time I come home from work, my dog looks so guilty, I try to touch the pillows on the couch to see if they’re still warm, I check for tell tale signs of dog hair in the middle of my nice clean bed, all while he slinks around knowing he’s done something. I don’t know what he’s up to, but I’m just about to find out…
Meet Dropcam, the new wifi webcam that allows you to monitor video of whats going on at your home or business from anywhere, via the web or even on your mobile device. The Dropcam is very small, easy to set up and very easy to use.
Simply connect the Dropcam to your Wi-Fi network using 802.11 b/g. You can also use a wired connection with the included ethernet cable. Dropcam works with most types of consumer routers and supports WEP, WPA, and WPA2 encryption. The Dropcam sets up in a flash and because there are no technical skills required, you just need to plug it in, and you’re done. Watch a demo after the break.
The Dropcam is perfect for those who travel frequently, or even just work away from home. Just set up a Dropcam in your home or business and watch what happens while you’re away, from almost anywhere in the world. See the demo HERE. Rover is just about to get his, I can tell you that.
You can also set up the Dropcam (or a few of them) to feed you automatic alerts of any activity while you’re gone, Dropcam can automatically detect motions or sound in order to record important events that happen while you’re not there. When something happens, you receive an email or iPhone push notification immediately and, you can watch it on the web or on your iPhone or Android device.
Dropcam.com currently offers two different models, the Dropcam Original ($199), which is video-only, and the Dropcam Echo ($279), which also captures audio the basic service is free, but if you add $8.95 a month, you can actually record 7 days of video and get notifications when the camera detects movement. Cool.

« TechiePK » Fujitsu's Touchpad keyboard concept

Fujitsu’s concept devices have figured out what consumers really want. Last week, we reported on the hybrid notebook/tablet that can fold into quarters, and now this touch pad keyboard.
Clearly, customization is key for this touchpad keyboard. Some users prefer that ergonomic keyboard with the split diagonal setup, while others prefer the traditional method. This allows the user to pick the type of keyboard that he or she wants.
All in all, it looks like something that could help out those who love the numeric keypad but don’t have it on their laptop. It also looks like it would come in handy for when changing language layouts is an issue. Not that I’ve ever had that problem, but in the age of “there’s an app for that” consumers want a lot more freedom on their personal electronics.
Of course, this is assuming that every consumer is used to a touchscreen. For me, it would take me a while to get used to a full-sized keyboard as I am used to the haptic feedback and clickity-click of the keys. However, I don’t see how this could work without a touchscreen unless some sort of new apparatus gets involved for a shape-shifting keyboard.
I am assuming that if laptops are ever devices with twin touch screens, this feature by Fujitsu would be a standard feature.
